Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 release wave 1: Expert highlights

A new update is on the way for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the first of two scheduled updates for 2023. Let’s take a look at just a few enhancements users can enjoy with the 2023 Wave 1 update.

Improvements in the warehousing functions of Dynamics 365 Business Central, including:

• Preview item journals before posting
• Ship and receive non-inventory items on warehouse documents
• Undo transfer shipments<

Improvements in the efficiency of collaborative business processes in Microsoft Teams, including:

• Respond to inquiries faster by attaching quotes and invoices from Outlook.
• Share, analyse, or bulk-edit records in Excel.
• Start a conversation about a record in Teams or rally the team around key datapoints.
• View, share, and co-author business documents using OneDrive for Business.
• Author beautiful reports and other templates in Word.

Improved user experience, including:

• Over the coming future releases Microsoft are updating the tooltips that people read most often to better explain the nature of fields and the outcomes of setting them.
• Add existing table fields to optimise your pages. In this wave, all table fields are unlocked so that users can add them to their pages to personalize their workspace, without having to resort to extensions.
• Business Central is adopting the familiar experience from Microsoft 365 applications, such as Excel and Word, to boost efficiency for keyboard users.

Also announced is a new mode on list pages to enable users to analyse and pivot data directly in the client – we have seen this in action, and it looks awesome!

The BC 2023 Wave 1 update brings into sharp focus continued advances with enhancements to intercompany transactions. The expanded functionality around reporting, automation and collaboration with improvements from Power Platform, Microsoft 365, and Teams will bring popular benefits to business leaders for maintaining full business visibility.
